6f07b8deee docs: Quickstart add frameworks (#11485)
# Which Problems Are Solved

The quickstart only shows the steps to take to get a working zitadel
login into your app with react.
For users with another framework or languages we didn't show how to get
to success fast.

# How the Problems Are Solved

- Adding different frameworks to the qucisktart example
- Make sure the app configurations in the onboarding flow from the
console match the configurations from the examples
- Docs link in console onboarding flow point towards quickstart
- Quickstart accepts framework selector, to pre select a framework from
another page

04c58c5b3f chore(ci): improving CI reliability when caching (#11501)
This fixes a case where potentially some static files get not properly
treated as inputs in the hash for nx cache calculation.

Also it fixes a problem where the assets.mdx get sorted randomly each
generation.

Florian ForsterandGitHub 0999e44821 docs(ci): fix an error where the vercel build fails on forked PRs (#11467)
This pull request introduces several improvements and security
enhancements to the documentation build scripts in
`apps/docs/scripts/fetch-remote-content.mjs`, as well as updates to the
test configuration in `apps/docs/package.json` and
`apps/docs/project.json`. The main focus is on enabling local
development workflows, improving safety when handling refs and file
paths, and making the codebase more robust against injection and
traversal attacks.

**Security and validation improvements:**

* Added `safeLog` and `isValidRef` helper functions to sanitize logs and
validate refs, preventing log and command injection vulnerabilities.
* Updated logic for reading local files and external content to ensure
paths are securely resolved and checked, preventing directory traversal
and unauthorized file access.

**Local development and workflow enhancements:**

* Refactored content fetching logic to support copying local content and
public assets when the source ref matches the local branch, enabling
easier local testing and development.

7a41fe968b fix(setup): ensure PostgreSQL 18 compatibility (#11484)
# Which Problems Are Solved

When starting Zitadel with Postgres version 18, setup fails with the
following error:

`level=error msg="migration failed" caller=".../cmd/setup/setup.go:373"
code=0A000 detail= error="ERROR: partitioned tables cannot be unlogged
(SQLSTATE 0A000)" hint= message="partitioned tables cannot be unlogged"
name=34_add_cache_schema severity=ERROR`

# How the Problems Are Solved

- Modify setup step 34 to ensure compatibility with PostgreSQL 18 by
changing the creation of the partitioned tables to`LOGGED` tables but
keep the partitions `UNLOGGED`.
- Added an additional setup step which alters the table persistence of
the partitioned tables to `LOGGED`.

# Additional Changes

- Bumped Postgres compatibility to version 18 in docs.
- Ensure default partitions for cache tables

## Additional Context

- closes https://github.com/zitadel/zitadel/issues/10712
- backport to v4
- migration from PostgreSQL version 17 to 18 was verified using
`pg_dumpall` and restoring the created backup file
- and new setups using PostgreSQL version 18 directly

Florian ForsterandGitHub 413f8ba585 docs: add missing k8s example (#11474)
This pull request significantly expands and restructures the Kubernetes
deployment documentation for Zitadel. It introduces detailed,
task-focused guides for installation, configuration, ingress, and
database setup, replacing the previous minimal documentation. The new
docs provide comprehensive instructions and best practices for deploying
Zitadel on Kubernetes using Helm, including security, scaling, and high
availability considerations.

The most important changes are:

**Documentation Restructuring and Overview**
- Added a new `index.mdx` providing an overview of the Zitadel Helm
chart, architecture, prerequisites, and quick links to relevant
resources and next steps.
- Removed the old minimal Kubernetes deployment page and replaced it
with a structured, multi-page documentation set.

**Installation and Setup**
- Added an `installation.mdx` guide with step-by-step instructions for
preparing prerequisites, creating Kubernetes secrets, configuring
`values.yaml`, installing the Helm chart, and verifying the deployment.

**Configuration and Best Practices**
- Added a `configuration.mdx` guide covering Helm chart configuration
options, including replica count, container images, security contexts,
external domain setup, secrets management, scaling, autoscaling, pod
disruption budgets, and anti-affinity rules.

**Ingress and Database Configuration**
- Added an `ingress.mdx` guide detailing how to configure Kubernetes
ingress resources for Zitadel and Login containers, including TLS
termination and certificate management.
- Added a `database.mdx` guide explaining how to connect Zitadel to
PostgreSQL with various TLS/security options and how to manage database
credentials and certificates using Kubernetes secrets.

Máté FarkasandGitHub 7eb88b3446 docs: fix docker-compose.yaml link in self-hosting docs page (#11466)
# Which Problems Are Solved

The 'self-hosting with Docker Compose' documentation page features a
link to a `docker-compose.yaml` file in the repo. It looks like this
link was not updated when #11166 migrated the docs to be under the
`apps/docs` folder structure, so currently it results in a 404.

# How the Problems Are Solved

Replaces the old link with the correct one featuring the new folder
structure.

Florian ForsterandGitHub 714c36b429 docs: fix fallback branch (#11463)
This pull request updates the fallback branch logic and improves
handling of branch names in the `fetch-remote-content.mjs` script. The
changes ensure better compatibility with both `main` and `master`
branches, and clarify how documentation versions are labeled.

Branch handling improvements:

* Changed the fallback branch from `fuma-docs` to `main` for fetching
content when a newer version does not exist.
* Updated branch detection logic to recognize both `main` and `master`
as valid primary branches, instead of just `main` and `fuma-docs`.
* Improved local version labeling: if the current branch is `main` or
`master`, it now returns a standardized label (`ZITADEL Docs`) and marks
it as not unreleased; other branches are handled accordingly.

d8ea041c56 docs: introduce versioned docs and migrate to fuma (#11166)
## Todos for release

- [x] Configure Env in docs project on vercel
- [x] Configure Root Path in the docs project on vercel
- [ ] Remove old CSP https://github.com/zitadel/website/pull/1592

## What we did

This pull request migrates the project documentation from the old
`docs/` directory to the new `apps/docs/` directory, introduces a new
documentation system built with Next.js and Fumadocs, and updates all
relevant references, configuration files, and documentation to reflect
this change. It also adds new configuration and ignore files for the new
documentation app, updates CI and linting to exclude the new docs from
certain checks, and revises the contributing guidelines accordingly.

**Documentation System Migration and New Docs App**

* Migrated all documentation from `docs/` to `apps/docs/`, and updated
all references in `README.md`, `CONTRIBUTING.md`, and other files to
point to the new location.

RamonandGitHub 7b6395c348 fix: improve NX caching (#11434)
# Which Problems Are Solved
This PR improves our NX caching, especially for the console and api.
It makes sure that if the console is changed the api is also rebuilt and
if the api is changed the functional-ui tests are rerun. It is important
to note this only fixes a subset of our problems.

# How the Problems Are Solved
NX ignores .gitignored files even if they are explicitly added to the
inputs of an NX target. To counteract this one can add these files to a
.nxignore file with a negated pattern.
https://nx.dev/docs/reference/inputs#token-behavior-with-nested-projects
. This solution is not documented per se but can be find in this Github
issue: https://github.com/nrwl/nx/issues/6821 . Further more nx
calculates the hashes of inputs at the start and does not recalculate
them even if a dependency of a target changes. To solve this problem one
needs to use
https://nx.dev/docs/reference/inputs#outputs-of-dependent-tasks . This
comment of an NX developer helped me further to understand the actual
behaviour of NX:
https://github.com/nrwl/nx/issues/33379#issuecomment-3657929455 .

# Additional Changes
Because the functional-ui tests now correctly run again they had to be
fixed. This pr unifies the field names in the user create v1 and v2 ui.

# Additional Context
To document this somewhere, this proposed fix does not work:
https://github.com/nrwl/nx/issues/6821#issuecomment-1309475504 . In my
local testing NX runtime inputs also get executed at the beginning of
the NX loop and ignore subsequent changes by targets. While testing this
fix and browsing through NX code I found this, which could be helpful in
the future and isn't documented: https://github.com/nrwl/nx/pull/31428

a10d13e2ec fix(login): use constructUrl for implicit IdP success/failure URLs (#11389)
Closes #11386

# Which Problems Are Solved

This PR fixes an issue where the `successUrl` and `failureUrl` for
implicit IdP flows (initiated via OIDC `idp🆔...` scopes) were being
constructed using `request.nextUrl.origin`. This failed to account for:
- `x-zitadel-forward-host` headers (essential for proper public URL
resolution).
- `NEXT_PUBLIC_BASE_PATH` configuration.

# How the Problems Are Solved

The fix replaces the manual string concatenation with the shared
`constructUrl` helper, ensuring consistent and correct URL generation.

Max PeintnerandGitHub 00481bd2dc fix(login): prevent eventual consistency issues on /password/change, missing permissions (#11371)
Closes #11345

# Which Problems Are Solved

When changing password, users could have run into a race condition /
eventual consistency issue which resulted in:

- Verification failures in `sendPassword`
- The user receiving a `couldNotCreateSession` or
`couldNotCreateSessionForUser` error despite providing a valid password.

# How the Problems Are Solved

- Previously, `checkSessionAndSetPassword` was fired without await,
causing the code to proceed immediately to
`sendPassword`. This resulted in `sendPassword` trying to verify the
user's session with the new password before the password update had
actually completed on the server.
- Now the password change call is executed by the login service user
only, ommitting eventual `membership not found (AUTHZ-cdgFk)` errors
from the API by using the user session itself. The login checks for a
recent password change (within 5 minutes) as well to ensure session
freshness.

26f8238499 fix(login): correctly redirect to /password when ignoreUnknownUsername is set (#11130)
Closes #11006

# Which Problems Are Solved

This PR addresses an issue where the ignoreUnknownUsernames setting was
not being respected in certain scenarios during the login flow.
Specifically:

- When a user was found but rejected due to login settings (e.g.,
disableLoginWithEmail), the system would return a "User not found" error
instead of redirecting to the password page as dictated by
ignoreUnknownUsernames.
- When a user was not found, and the flow fell through the registration
checks (e.g., IDP redirect failed), it would also return "User not
found" without checking ignoreUnknownUsernames.

# How the Problems Are Solved

- Introduced a helper function `handleUserNotFound` in
`apps/login/src/lib/server/loginname.ts` to centralize the logic for
checking ignoreUnknownUsernames and redirecting to the password page.
- Updated the user validation logic to call handleUserNotFound when a
user is found but rejected by policy.
- Updated the registration fallback logic to call handleUserNotFound
instead of directly returning an error.
- Added new test cases in `apps/login/src/lib/server/loginname.test.ts`
to verify the fix and ensure no regressions.

# Additional Changes

- Fixed inconsistency in translation files

Tim MöhlmannandGitHub eb22b58756 feat(telemetry): improved instrumentation for observability (#11159)
# Which Problems Are Solved

Zitadel did not provide easy correlation between errors, logs, traces
and metrics. The configuration for those instrumentations was also not
consistent, with some supporting different exporters then others.
Implementation and parsing of config was also spaghettified over
multiple packages, with awkward parsing and inconsistent naming of
options.

# How the Problems Are Solved

All telemetry is now merged under the name "instrumentation". Why?
1. We thought it was a good idea in the past to call the milestone
exporter `Telemtry` in the runtime config. Calling this `TelemetryV2`
looks weird.
2. Not everything is a meter and not everything is sent (tele...).
3. It's also
[defined](https://opentelemetry.io/docs/concepts/instrumentation/) as
such by the OTEL documentation.

## New features

- Adds structured, context based logging with trace-ID awareness
- Static log fields are added to the context, such as service and
request path
- Static log fields are injected in each logline emitted by the
application
- Structured logs can also be send to an otel exporter
- Structured logs can be printed to StdErr in text and JSON format
- Error sinks make sure every error is logged at the correct level:
- Warnings for client side errors (HTTP 400 range, Invalid request etc)
  - Error for server side errors (Internal server errors)
- Metrics can now also be send to a OTEL collector. (previously they
could only be scraped from `/debug/metrics` with prometheus)

## Exporters

This change adds all the exporters supported by OTEL upstream and some
google specific exporters for our cloud deployment.

- StdOut / StdErr: all instrumentations
- OTEL gRPC / HTTP: all instrumentations
- Google: all instrumentations except logging
- Prometheus (pull-based): only metrics

The exception is profiling, which only supports the google exporting due
to lack of support by OTEL upstream.

## Configuration and structure

- All instrumentation is moved into the new `backend/v3/instrumentation`
package. It reuses configuration types, so both code and runtime
configuration are easier to understand.
- The `internal/telemetry` packages are removed.
- Instrumentation is started with a single function and a proper
shutdown function is now provided.
- Legacy configuration is still parsed from the runtime config, as long
as the new configuration is disabled. This allows backporting this
feature to v4 without breaking existing configurations.

# Additional Changes

- Devcontainer: set `$PATH` variable so installed go binaries can be run
individually, without NX.
- NX: install GCI tool to fix imports

9f1119823b fix(login): cleanup server logs (#11195)
Closes #11184

# Which Problems Are Solved

- loginName: This information is already retrievable from the URL
parameters during the authentication flow, so logging it presented no
additional exposure.
- idpIntent: This was being logged to the server console (server-side
logs), so it was never exposed to the client/browser.
These changes simply clean up the server logs to prevent unnecessary
data noise.

# How the Problems Are Solved

- Removed idpIntent logging from
`apps/login/src/lib/server/idp-intent.ts`
- Removed loginName logging from
`apps/login/src/lib/server/password.ts`

Max PeintnerandGitHub 072755f85a fix(login): delete custom request headers when their value is empty (#11263)
# Which Problems Are Solved

The application automatically appends the x-zitadel-public-host header
when a public host is configured. In some deployment scenarios where the
host is determined by default or via other means, sending this header
allows for improper routing or is simply redundant. The existing
CUSTOM_REQUEST_HEADERS configuration only supported adding or
overwriting headers, offering no way to remove headers that were set by
default logic.

# How the Problems Are Solved

Extended the `CUSTOM_REQUEST_HEADERS` handling in `src/lib/zitadel.ts`.
The logic now checks for empty header values. If a header is defined in
`CUSTOM_REQUEST_HEADERS` with an empty value (e.g.,
x-zitadel-public-host:), the interceptor will delete that header from
the request instead of setting it to an empty string. This allows users
to opt-out of default headers via configuration.

Max PeintnerandGitHub 7963cdd713 fix(login): enable explicit IDP linking using existing session id (#11225)
Closes #11191

# Which Problems Are Solved

This PR fixes the IDP linking for accounts with no authentication
method.
We strictly validate session ownership and generate a hash of the
sessionId + the user's fingerprintId cookie. This hash is passed to the
IDP as linkFingerprint.

This PR addtionally addresses TypeScript errors regarding unknown types
in catch blocks within the IDP intent processing logic. It ensures that
errors occurring during IDP linking are safely handled, and that
meaningful error messages are propagated to the client-side redirect
URLs.

# How the Problems Are Solved

- Safely handle unknown errors: Updated catch blocks in
`processIDPCallback` to check if the caught object is an instance of
Error before accessing error.message.
- Fix "IDP Taken" check: Implemented a safe check for the gRPC error
code 6 (Already Exists) by casting the error, resolving the Property
'code' does not exist on type 'unknown' build error.
- Error Propagation: The specific error message is now passed to the
linking-failed page params, allowing for better user feedback instead of
generic errors.

b4732579cb fix(RT): correct restricting null columns (#11123)
# Which Problems Are Solved

`IS NULL` and `IS NOT NULL` conditions were incorrectly marked as
restricting columns,
and currently fails unit tests. The restricting columns are mostly used
to ensure single row selection during DELETE and UPDATE . When a `IS NOT
NULL` condition is passed, the filter may (unintentionally) apply to all
rows, while still allowing the query to execute.

Settings and other repositories (still to be done) have unified tables
for instance-level settings and organization-level settings. In those
cases the organization ID may be null or have a value. The unique
condition is a compound of multiple columns, in which case `IS NULL` is
valid as part of the other restricting columns.

# How the Problems Are Solved

In order to prevent unsafe usage of null related filters and not break
settings:

- null conditions are no longer considered restricting columns
- A function to force the restricting column state on a condition is
provided
- The settings unique condition function forces restricting column state
on the returned condition.

75791361f3 fix(login): Organization Discovery for Login Without Org Context (#10996)
# Which Problems Are Solved

When users accessed the login page without an organization context and
entered a login name with a domain suffix (e.g., [[email protected]], the
system would return "user not found" instead of performing organization
discovery.

# How the Problems Are Solved

Added organization discovery logic that triggers after a global user
search returns no results. When no organization context is provided:

- Extracts the domain suffix from the loginName (e.g., @company.com)
- Queries for organizations with that domain as their primary domain
- If exactly one organization is found with allowDomainDiscovery
enabled, uses it as the discovered organization
- Redirects users to the appropriate flow (IDP, registration, or
password) with the discovered organization context

66e04b1dad fix(login): Add default organization fallback for IDP user creation #11025 (#11026)
# Which Problems Are Solved

When users authenticate via IDP (Identity Provider) without explicit
organization context, the flow could fail or create users without proper
organization assignment. This occurred when:

- No organization parameter was provided in the IDP callback
- Domain discovery didn't find a matching organization
- OIDC requests didn't include organization scopes

# How the Problems Are Solved

Implemented a fallback mechanism that ensures organization context is
always available:

- Centralized organization resolution in `resolveOrganizationForUser()`
  - First: Use explicitly provided organization
  - Second: Attempt domain discovery from username
  - Third: Fallback to default organization (NEW)
- Explicit error handling: Users are never created without organization
context. If no organization can be determined (including no default
org), the flow fails gracefully with a clear error message.
- Applied to both creation flows:
  - CASE 4: Auto-creation of users
  - CASE 5: Manual user registration

Max PeintnerandGitHub fa524e3b05 fix(login): Return promise from passkey authentication to fix automatic prompt (#10991)
# Which Problems Are Solved

The passkey login page was not rendering properly in production (Cloud
Run) deployments, with the submit button and component content not
appearing. Additionally, the automatic passkey prompt was not triggering
correctly.

# How the Problems Are Solved

Added the missing return statement before navigator.credentials.get() in
the submitLoginAndContinue function. This ensures the promise is
properly returned and chained in the useEffect hook, fixing the
automatic passkey prompt flow.

Removes the recently introduces guides to passkeys that could result in
a hydration error due to the <a> tag being rendered differently on
server / client environement

# Additional Changes

This issue was most probably introduced in PR #10971. The component uses
promise chaining (.then().catch().finally()) which requires the promise
to be returned, unlike the RegisterPasskey component which uses
async/await and works correctly without an explicit return.

9dc127ddb5 fix(login): Prevent double execution of IDP callback token and improve architecture (#10948)
Closes #10828

# Which Problems Are Solved

The IDP callback flow was calling retrieveIDPIntent() twice, causing
single-use token failures with error: "Intent Token is invalid". This
occurred due to Next.js 15's dynamicIO feature triggering double renders

# How the Problems Are Solved

Completely refactored the IDP callback architecture to ensure single-use
tokens are consumed exactly once:

- Centralized Business Logic: Moved all IDP callback logic into a single
server action (processIDPCallback) that:
   - Consumes the token once
- Handles all 6 business scenarios (login, linking, auto-linking,
auto-creation, manual registration, account not found)
   - Integrates session creation in the same action
- Returns `{ redirect?: string; error?: string }` for client-side
navigation
- Client Component Invocation: Created `IdpProcessHandler` client
component that:
- Calls the server action from browser context (enables cookie
modification)
   - Prevents double execution with useRef
   - Handles loading states and error display
- Clean Architecture:
   - Removed 403-line success page with complex logic
   - Removed component files from `/components/idps/pages/` folder
   - Moved all UI directly into server pages
   - Created dedicated result pages with minimal params
